The appearance day of Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja — the saintly founder of ISKCON Bhubaneswar, who established this temple on the instruction of Srila Prabhupada in 1977. Born in Jagannatha-pura, Odisha, he had read the Bhagavad-gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam and Sri Caitanya-caritamrta by the age of eight, took sannyasa from Srila Prabhupada in 1975, preached the glories of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's sankirtan movement around the world, and translated Srila Prabhupada's books into Odia. A day of remembrance, kirtan and celebration at the temple he built.
